A 220kV main transformer is a critical component in the transmission and operational system of a power plant. In the event of equipment failure, the replacement and reinstallation must be carried out quickly, accurately, and with absolute safety to minimize downtime and reduce potential losses for the client.

Given the urgent nature and strict technical requirements, the client required a contractor with proven experience in transporting high-capacity electrical equipment and the ability to execute an integrated scope of work, including dismantling, transportation, and reinstallation within a tight timeframe.

Scope of Work Executed by VGT

  • In accordance with the project plan, VGT carried out the full scope of work, including:
  • Dismantling the 220kV transformer body and its accessories at Phu My 3 BOT Power Plant
  • Developing packing, securing, and protection solutions during transportation
  • Safely transporting the 220kV transformer body and accessories to Phu My 1 Power Plant
  • Coordinating on-site operations to meet requirements related to site conditions, lifting operations, and transport routes
  • Reinstalling the transformer body and accessories onto the operational foundation at Phu My 1 Power Plant in accordance with technical specifications

Prior to execution, VGT’s engineering team conducted a comprehensive site assessment and developed an optimized transportation plan for high-value equipment with stringent safety requirements such as a 220kV transformer.

VGT deployed personnel and equipment under a project-based execution model, ensuring strict control at every stage—from lifting, securing, and transportation to alignment and installation at the operational foundation. At the same time, the execution plan was developed based on key principles: safety, on-time delivery, and minimal disruption, enabling smooth implementation during the holiday period.

Thanks to thorough preparation and efficient execution, VGT successfully completed the entire scope within a short timeframe, achieving the project’s key objective of minimizing operational downtime caused by the failure of the main transformer.

Timely delivery and reinstallation of the equipment enabled the client to:

  • Minimize impact on power generation operations
  • Reduce risks associated with prolonged downtime
  • Ensure technical compliance and safety during the relocation and installation of high-capacity electrical equipment

This project clearly demonstrates VGT’s capabilities in project logistics and the transportation of oversized and heavy cargo, particularly for technically demanding equipment such as 220kV transformers in power plants. With extensive hands-on experience and flexible coordination capabilities, VGT is ready to support industrial, energy, and infrastructure projects nationwide.
