The Southern Vietnam Petrochemical Complex Project, located in Long Son, Vung Tau City, Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province, is invested by SCG Group from Thailand with a total registered investment capital of approximately USD 5.4 billion. The project covers nearly 400 hectares of land, nearly 70 hectares of water-surface land, and approximately 194 hectares of water surface for port development.
Construction work began in November 2019. Once operational, the Long Son Petrochemical Complex is expected to have an annual production capacity of 998,000 tons of ethylene, 420,000 tons of propylene, 113,000 tons of butadiene, 483,000 tons of PP, 525,000 tons of HDPE, and 525,000 tons of LDPE.
The project is located within the Southern Key Economic Region of Ho Chi Minh City – Bien Hoa – Vung Tau, adjacent to Cai Mep – Thi Vai Port. This is a national key project that plays an important role in the socio-economic development strategy of Vietnam in general and Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province in particular.
By 2023, the Southern Petrochemical Complex was expected to be put into operation, contributing to replacing and gradually reducing the import of petrochemical products, while providing an important source of raw materials and fuels for domestic manufacturing industries. At the same time, the project creates opportunities for exporting petrochemical products and generates employment for approximately 20,000 local workers.
Vietnam Global Transport Joint Stock Company was entrusted by the contractors to manage and support customs clearance, cargo receiving, transportation, and handover for a major portion of the workload under large-scale contract packages, including Package A1 – Olefins Plant, undertaken by the Technip FMC – SK Korea contractor consortium; Package B – HDPE Plant and Package C – PP Plant, undertaken by Samsung Engineering Korea; and Package G – Central Utilities Plant, undertaken by Hyundai Korea.
Despite the demanding construction schedule and the massive workload, with strong dedication and professional project execution capabilities, VGT successfully completed all assigned work items. The company ensured the safe and timely delivery of a large volume of equipment, including oversized and overweight cargo, to the plant construction site in accordance with the required schedule.
